Meet the Althen Academy Class of 2024

News article

From June 19th to 21st, Althen Sensors & Controls hosted its annual Althen Academy Days, a prestigious event dedicated to the ongoing education and development of the international Althen sales teams. Held at Althen in Kelkheim near Frankfurt, the event brought together over 25 participants, including key partners and industry experts, to delve into the latest advancements in sensor technology and applications.

A three-day immersion in sensor technology

At Althen, we firmly believe that continuous learning not only enhances professional growth but also contributes to a healthier, longer life. The Althen Academy Days, managed by Kees Bruijn, featured a comprehensive three-day program designed to train the sales teams on various products, solutions, and technologies relevant to the sensor market. The event included presentations and in-depth discussions about miniature pressure sensors, loads cells and from esteemed partners such as Microsensor, and Hitec, each bringing their expertise to the forefront.

Miniature pressure sensors and load cell technology

Our ultra-miniaturized pressure sensors for harsh environments, was represented by Sensorade. The complexities of manufacturing these high-performance sensors, which operate in temperatures up to 185°C and are as small as 1.2mm were highlighted. The presentation underscored the importance of precision in applications like wind tunnel testing and Formula 1 plus racing developments.

Also an in-depth look at the design and manufacture of high-quality, precision load cells was provided during the training. These load cells are essential in various industries, from aerospace to marine and military applications. The training emphasized the safety and precision load cells offer, with notable applications like the Project March exoskeleton.

Altheneers training other Altheneers

Our own experienced Eric Suty delivered a comprehensive overview of certain product ranges. His training reinforced Althen's role as a mass distributor aiming to be the preferred partner for several groups of customers.

Holger and Jan from Althen's German engineering and manufacturing department showcased Althen's capabilities in designing and producing:

  • sensors
  • amplifiers
  • indicators
  • dataloggers
  • data acquisition systems

Holger and Jan highlighted innovative solutions like the Mobile Inclination Monitoring System and the Helicopter Weighing System, which hold significant business potential.

Business development in aerospace and other applications

Trevor Scott, international sales and aerospace business development manager, provided extensive knowledge about market presence and a rather spectacular product offering. At first he placed much emphasis on applications in production machinery. He also showed us how to offer customers a unique ability to develop custom fiber sensors for critical environments, at micron precision. After this Trevor continued to touch upon all sorts of solutions engineered for harsh environments and used to control interactions between operators and critical machinery in medical, aerospace, industrial, automotive, energy and other applications.

Pressure sensors, transmitters, and flow meters

The week before we became Certified Partner for Micro Sensor and signed a Distribution Agreement to take our partnership ashtagto the next level. Kai introduced the extensive pressure portfolio, used in industries like oil and gas, marine, and renewable energy. He also discussed the recent distributor agreement with Althen and a very intriguing application involving cryogenics cooling systems.
