Sensors for measuring earth pressure are often used on construction sites. Among other things, they are important for planning and safety during and long-term monitoring after construction work. Althen has two new pressure sensors from TML in its programme for this purpose, which can help to identify potential risks.
Ensuring safety
Increased earth pressure can be an indication of an unstable soil structure or imminent ground movement, which can lead to landslides, landslides or other dangerous situations. Continuous monitoring of earth pressure makes it possible to recognise potential dangers at an early stage and take appropriate safety measures to prevent accidents and damage.
Model tests are often carried out before the actual construction work begins. Althen has the KDE-PA and KDF-PA ground pressure sensors from TML in its programme for this purpose. With an outer diameter of just 50 mm, they are very small, which makes them ideal for test set-ups. They are designed with a double diaphragm structure that can minimise the displacement of a measuring range and can therefore measure the stress distribution in the soil under pressure consistently and without interference. Both sensors are made entirely of stainless steel (protection class corresponds to IP68).
Measurement data for better planning
During the actual construction process, it is important to monitor the earth pressure around excavations, foundations or other structures to ensure that they can withstand the loads. By measuring the earth pressure, engineers can assess the stability of the construction site and make adjustments if necessary to ensure the safety and integrity of the structures. Measuring earth pressure also provides important data for the planning and design of structures and infrastructure projects. It enables engineers to better understand soil mechanics and plan appropriate construction measures to minimise the effects of earth pressure.
About the soil pressure sensors
KDA-PA and KDB-PA from TML are soil pressure sensors with an outer diameter of 200 mm and also have a double membrane structure. While the KDA-PA is used to measure the pressure in the ground and to monitor the behaviour of slopes, the KDB-PA is suitable for measuring the pressure in embankments or on the wall surfaces of buildings. Both sensors can also be used to monitor dynamic earth pressures.
Product variants
To facilitate correct installation, all ground pressure sensors are available in two different cable variants; the cable is either attached to the side or in the centre at the rear. All ground pressure sensors are robust and offer a good and cost-effective solution for measuring ground pressure during construction work.
